Steel Beam (RSJ) Design

Steel beams otherwise known as Rolled Steel Joists (RSJs) are typically required to provide support where a load bearing wall is to be removed.  They are also used for long span purlins where timber cannot be used and to support large opening in floors.

CVM have over thirty years experience in the design of steelwork beams and masonry piers but in addition they are also experienced temporary works specialists who can provide advice in the temporary support of the existing structure to enable demolition to take place safely and the supporting beam installed without compromising the stability of the building.

CVM can also undertake retrospective calculations for building regulation approval when a steel beam has been installed without advice from a Chartered structrual engineer, however, we would advise that we are appointed before this to ensure that the beam size is adequate for its intended use and that the temporary works are adequate.
